On 19 September 2017, the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS), the Institute for Lightweight Construction and Plastics Technology (IKL) and the Korea Institute of Material Science (KIMS) established a joint materials research center in the South Korean city of Changwon. As a start-up project, the IKTS and the KIMS initially operate a test centre together. The centre will also serve as a cooperation platform and offer research services for the European and Asian markets.
